1. Scratch resistance application in products
The material selection of injection molded parts for automotive interiors is crucial to ensure their scratch resistance. Polypropylene (PP) has been widely used in automotive interior materials due to its lightweight, high cost-effectiveness, heat resistance, good rigidity, and easy processing and molding characteristics.
However, the scratch resistance of pure PP materials is not ideal, so it is usually necessary to improve their performance through modification.
The anti scratch of modified polypropylene materials can be improved by adding specific scratch resistant agents. For example, Xiangxichem DX8502, as an organic silicon scratch resistant agent containing PP carrier, can play an anchoring role in PP resin, effectively improving the compatibility of PP material, making the organic silicon evenly distributed on the PP surface, thereby improving the scratches and defects on the interior surface
. In addition, this anti scratch agent can also maintain the material surface from sticking or yellowing after high temperature light exposure, improving the air quality inside the car from the source, and has environmental friendliness and safety.
In addition to the addition of scratch resistant agents, the choice of matrix resin also affects the scratch resistance of the material. Research has found that homopolymer polypropylene (PP) is superior to copolymer polypropylene in terms of scratch resistance
. In addition, as a mineral filler, talc powder can improve the scratch resistance of modified polypropylene materials, and the smaller the particle size of talc powder, the better the effect.
In terms of scratch resistance testing of automotive interior materials, the national standard Schober Wear Test Method for Textile Materials Used in Automotive Interiors” provides a testing method to evaluate the wear resistance of materials through specific friction effects
Standard specifies various test methods for the scratch resistance performance of automotive interior materials, including grid method and five finger scratch method, as well as corresponding result evaluation method
Taking all factors into consideration, the scratch resistance of injection molded parts for automotive interiors can be improved through material selection, addition of modifiers, and optimization of production processes. Through these methods, the durability and aesthetics of automotive interior parts can be effectively improved, meeting consumers’ expectations for the quality and performance of automotive interiors.
2. Scratch resistance agent of Xiangxichem
DX8502 is a high molecular weight silicone masterbatch using PP as the carrier. It is mainly used in PP material or automotive interior. It has better dispersibility and compatibility in plastics, while having less impact on material mechanical properties. DX8502 has better demolding performance and smoothness.
